Post-16 (Ages 16 to 18)
Our Post-16 phase is the bridge between school and adult life. Every element of the provision is shaped by the four national Preparing for Adulthood outcomes: employment, independent living, community inclusion and good health.
What learning looks like
Learning is practical, purposeful and increasingly based in the community. Students work on personalised programmes that may include independent travel training, cooking and household skills, money management, work-related learning and vocational tasters, and sustained use of community facilities – shops, cafés, leisure centres and libraries.
Communication and self-regulation remain central, with the SCERTS framework continuing to underpin our practice. Students on each pathway follow programmes matched to their needs: sensory and engagement-based learning on Explore, functional and practical learning on Semi-Formal, and externally accredited courses where appropriate on our Formal pathway.
Transition to adulthood
We work closely with families, local authorities and adult services to plan each student's next destination – whether that is a specialist college, supported employment, day provision or another setting. Transition planning starts early, is reviewed at every annual review, and is personalised to each young person's aspirations.
Our ambition for every student leaving Landon is the same as our ethos promises: a life that is safe, happy – and still full of learning.
