Formal Pathway

The Formal pathway is for learners who can access more structured, subject-based learning, while still benefiting from Landon's specialist environment, small classes and integrated therapeutic support.

What learning looks like

Pupils on the Formal pathway study a broad range of subjects – including English, mathematics, science, humanities, computing, PE and the creative arts – adapted and sequenced to meet their individual needs. Teaching is structured and ambitious, with clear routines and the visual and sensory support that allows autistic learners to thrive.

Communication and self-regulation remain central: SCERTS-informed targets sit alongside academic ones, because success in adult life depends on both. Learning is enriched by community visits and practical application, so knowledge never stays trapped on the page.

Accreditation and next steps

As pupils progress into the Secondary and Post-16 phases, we introduce externally accredited courses matched to each learner's strengths and aspirations, so that achievement is formally recognised and future options – college placements, training or supported employment – remain open.

As with all our pathways, placement on the Formal pathway is reviewed regularly, and progress is measured against each pupil's own starting point as well as course criteria.
