At Landon School, we carefully adapt how instructions are given to meet the individual needs of each child. For some pupils, this may mean being given a complete task to work through independently, while others may benefit from one instruction at a time, visual support, prompting or staff role-modelling each step.
By providing the right level of support, we can help our pupils to:

🦖🌿 Sensory Play Meets Imagination! 🌿🦕
Our team created this fantastic dinosaur-themed sensory setup using a range of dry, edible sensory materials — giving our pupils the opportunity to explore, discover and use their imaginations through play.
Dry sensory play can support so many areas of development. Scooping, pouring, grabbing and moving different materials helps develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, while exploring different textures provides valuable sensory experiences in a fun and engaging way.
Adding dinosaurs and imaginative elements can also encourage curiosity, creativity, communication and problem-solving. 🦕✨ Children can create their own little worlds and explore at their own pace, making sensory play both meaningful and enjoyable.
And by using edible sensory materials, the activity can be made more accessible for pupils who may explore through their mouths too. 💚

As part of one of our INSET days, our team took part in TEAM Level 1 training — a positive behaviour management course focused on helping staff understand behaviour and respond in a safe, positive and supportive way.

🍅 Last term, Maple and Willow Class celebrated the famous Spanish festival of La Tomatina! 🇪🇸
The children explored tomatoes through sensory play before taking part in their very own tomato-throwing celebration! There were smiles, laughter and plenty of messy fun as everyone got involved. The staff couldn’t resist joining in either, and it looked like they had just as much fun as the children! Luckily, they came prepared with a spare change of clothes. 😄
Experiences like these help bring different cultures to life through hands-on, memorable learning while encouraging sensory exploration, communication and shared enjoyment.
