After an engaging Bucket Time session, Elm Class have been winding down with some calming bubble play! 🫧✨
Bucket Time, part of the Attention Autism approach, helps develop attention, engagement and shared enjoyment through exciting, visually stimulating activities.
But just as important as those moments of focused learning are the opportunities to slow down and regulate afterwards.
Watching bubbles float through the air provides a gentle sensory experience, supporting our pupils to:
🫧 Self-regulate – offering a calming activity following a period of focused attention.
👀 Develop visual tracking – following bubbles as they move through the air.
💚 Support emotional wellbeing – creating a relaxed, enjoyable environment.
🤝 Encourage shared attention – enjoying moments of connection with adults and peers.
✨ Support transitions – helping pupils move from a structured activity into a calmer part of their day.

💚 Little steps towards BIG independence! 👕✨
In Elm Class, we’ve been focusing on developing those all-important independence skills that help prepare our pupils for everyday life!
Our team have been encouraging the children to practise dressing skills using specially designed resources that allow them to explore zips, buttons and Velcro fastenings at their own pace.
These activities might seem simple, but they support so many important areas of development:
🤲 Fine motor skills – strengthening hand muscles and developing finger control.
👀 Hand-eye coordination – learning to coordinate movements to complete a task.
🧠 Problem-solving – working out how different fastenings open and close.
👕 Life skills – building the foundations for dressing independently.
🌟 Confidence and self-esteem – experiencing that wonderful sense of achievement when completing something for themselves!
At Landon School, promoting independence is an important part of our everyday learning. We recognise that every child develops at their own pace, and with the right support, encouragement and opportunities to practise, those small steps can lead to big achievements!

💚 Connecting through play – Intensive Interaction! ✨
Sometimes the simplest activities create the most meaningful opportunities for connection!
In this lovely moment, one of our class teachers is engaging with a pupil through scooping and pouring lentils, using simple, relevant language such as “scoop,” “pour” and “more” to support communication and understanding. 🥄
Intensive Interaction is all about building connections, developing communication and responding to each child’s individual interests and actions.
Through this sensory activity, we are supporting:
🗣️ Communication development – introducing meaningful vocabulary through actions and repetition.
👀 Shared attention – encouraging moments of connection and engagement.

Who says maths has to happen at a table?
Through play, our pupils are developing early mathematical skills in fun, meaningful and engaging ways!
In this activity, one of our pupils is cutting a play pizza alongside an adult, who is modelling mathematical language such as “Now there are two!” 🍕🍕
By introducing mathematical vocabulary naturally through play, we are supporting our pupils to:
🔢 Develop an understanding of numbers and quantities.
🗣️ Build communication and mathematical vocabulary.
🧠 Explore early concepts such as whole, half and parts.
👀 Make connections between actions and outcomes.
🤝 Develop turn-taking and shared attention.
These little moments of learning help build the foundations for bigger mathematical concepts, all through an activity that is enjoyable and meaningful to the child.

🚗 Learning Through Cause and Effect! 🌟
In Elm Class, Rofiat has been exploring cause and effect with one of our pupils, encouraging them to roll cars down a track and discover what happens next! 🚙💨
Using fun, expressive sounds such as “wow!” and “weee!”, Rofiat is supporting communication, building anticipation and encouraging shared attention through play. 💚
Cause and effect toys are a fantastic way to support our pupils’ development by:
✨ Developing understanding – recognising that their actions can make something happen.
✨ Encouraging communication – creating opportunities for sounds, gestures and interaction.
✨ Building anticipation – learning to predict what might happen next.
✨ Supporting independence – encouraging children to explore, experiment and make things happen for themselves.

💚 Exploring the world through touch! ✋✨
In Elm Class, our pupils have been exploring different textures, developing their sensory awareness and communication skills through hands-on learning!
In this activity, one of our pupils is encouraged to feel and press different textured buttons, supported by visuals and language such as “pressing” and “I can feel different textures.”
By combining sensory exploration with visual and verbal prompts, we are supporting our pupils to:
✋ Develop sensory awareness – exploring and recognising how different surfaces feel.
🗣️ Build communication skills – connecting words and visuals with real experiences.
👀 Develop understanding – making connections between instructions, actions and outcomes.
🤲 Strengthen fine motor skills – using fingers and hands to press, touch and explore.
🧠 Build confidence – encouraging curiosity and exploration at a pace that feels comfortable for each child.

A lovely moment of connection in Cedar Class 💚
During a recent group TacPac session, the children took the lead! 🌟
TacPac usually involves staff using touch, movement and music to support sensory communication, interaction and regulation. But during this session, our pupils began connecting with one another — independently making the familiar motions on each other’s backs and sharing the experience together.
It was wonderful to see them taking what they know from TacPac and using it to engage with their peers, building confidence, communication and social connection along the way. 💚
