Oak Class have been exploring road safety during our sensory story session! 🌟
Using sensory tiles to build a zebra crossing and hands-on resources to represent traffic lights, our learners practised stopping and following pedestrian rules.
They listened carefully to adult instructions and had lots of fun applying their skills in a meaningful way. This activity tied perfectly into our term topic, Let’s Travel! 🚦🛣️

✨ It’s Oak Class’s week for our Instagram Takeover!
Today we enjoyed a wonderful Attention Autism Bucket Time session.
Most of our pupils were able to focus for 3–5 minutes and reached Stage 3 🎉.
They took turns serving “fake” ice cream made from scented kinetic sand 🍦 choosing vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry! Some even served ice cream to staff and peers.
Great fun was had by all, with excellent attention, engagement, and turn-taking 💛.

🚒 From fire engine visit to firefighting action! 🔥
Following Monday`s exciting fire engine visit, Elm Class became firefighters for the day! Our learners used water sprays to extinguish a brilliantly painted fire on the table, bringing their learning to life through hands-on, imaginative play.
Donning bright red fire helmets, pupils engaged in meaningful role-play while developing:
~ Fine motor control through spray bottle manipulation
~ Hand-eye coordination targeting the "flames"
~ Cause-and-effect understanding (spray water = fire disappears!)
~ Real-world safety awareness in a fun, accessible way
SCERTS in action:
~ Emotional Regulation through exciting yet structured sensory play
~ Social Communication as learners took turns and shared equipment
~ Transactional Support with clear visual cues (painted fire) and adult modelling

Our learners had a wonderful time making cupcakes in our cooking lesson, developing essential life skills through hands-on experience.
~ Mixing ingredients together - building fine motor strength and bilateral coordination
~ Pouring with control - developing spatial awareness and hand-eye coordination
~ Following visual sequences - supporting executive functioning skills
~ Working alongside peers - fostering joint attention and social engagement
Through our EQUALS curriculum, cooking activities target multiple learning pathways - from sensory exploration of textures and smells to understanding cause-and-effect as ingredients transform into treats!

✈️ Taking flight with sensory learning in Elm Class! ✈️
Our learners explored the world of aeroplanes through two wonderful sensory activities today:
🎨 Activity 1: Dipping aeroplane pictures into white paint and creating textured prints on card - developing fine motor skills and cause-and-effect understanding
☁️ Activity 2: Blue foam clouds with aeroplanes on top - engaging tactile exploration while building real-world connections
These activities perfectly align with our SCERTS framework, supporting:
~ Emotional Regulation through calming sensory experiences
~ Transactional Support with structured, predictable activities
~ Joint Attention as learners engage with staff and peers
